About Us
 
Bhumika is a Socio-cultural organization established from 20th December 1989 at Balangir, the western part of Odisha. Late Chhanda Charan Acharya was the founder President. Since then the journey of Bhumika is on to promote, protect, and popularize Theatre in the region. It has taken the pioneer role in its field through manifold activities like Seminars, Street plays, Workshops, Exhibitions and Bisuba Utsav. To take the activity one step up Bhumika is organizing an all India Multilingual Theatre Festival (Mathkhai Mahotsav) since 2006.
VISION
Bhumika aims to bring social and cultural harmony through theatre in the local region and the nation. To protect and revive the theatre which is the reflection of socio-cultural status of a nation. It also aims to bring transformation into the social, cultural and political system of the region. To up bring the human value through theatre. Bhumika Parivar has a strong belief and commitment to accomplish its goal.

HISTORY
A new era in the theater world of Western Odisha begin with the emerge of Bhumika. The process start with the rehearsal a play “Hati Ku Homeopathy” directed by Sri Ram Chandra Sahu stage on December 5th 1989 at B Ed College, Balangir with a grand success. On December 20th 1989 under the able leadership of a eminent Artist & Poet Chhanda Charan Acharya. With one soul and mind the organization continued its activities with its own efforts and blessing of well-wishers.

In the Year 1990
Stage “Mera Bharat Mahan” a short play in the District level short play competition organized by the Rangakara on 11th February and appreciated and honored by the spectators. One permanent achievement attach to the Bhumika in shape of Sri Ram Chandra Sahu"s selection to the National School of Drama, New Delhi of study.
For the first time in the history of Balangir Bhumika performed street play “Mera Bharat Mahan” which was inaugurated by the then Minister of Health and Family Welfare Honble Ghasi Ram Majhi. On eve of Independence Day.
On December 18th, 19th one seminar organized with renowned theater personality Sri Ramesh Kumar Panigrahi and one Poetry session in presence of Poet Dr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra and Padmashree Dr. Srinibash Udgata .

In the Year 1991
On the eve of Maha Bisuba Sankarint “Kavita Patho Ustav” and a state level Art exhibition organized which was inaugurated by renowned artist Mr. Asit Mukharjee
Street play named “Satya Meba Jayate” staged at all sub-divisional headquarter of undivided Balangir District. “Karmee Ame Desara” directed by Mr. Suresh Ch Sahu . in the same year the play “Chauki” staged on a competition held at Law College Balangir directed By Gada Dhara Barik in the best director and best actor award achieve by Sri Suresh Ch Sahu.

In the Year 1992
On the eve of Maha Bisuba Sankarint “Bisuba Ustav” the state level Art exhibition and “Kavita Pathostav” organized which was inaugurated by renowned artist Mr. Lokanath Sathpathy in presence of Mr.Baldeb Maharatha ,Artist.
On 16.11.1992 Bhumika performed “Mera Bharat Mahan” at Keonjhar in a state level drama competition .One Theater Work Shop conducted under the guardianship Mr. Rama Chandra Sahu.

In the Year 1993
The Third “Bisuba Ustav” and the state level Art exhibition was organized. On Dated 21.11.1993 “JULUSH” a play of Badal Sarkar “Michhil”translated in Hindi directed by Mr. Rama Chandra Sahu.
Balangir Municiplity Awarded Bhumika as best socio Cultural Organisation on SWAYATTA SASANA DIVAS.

In the Year 1994
On 29th January “JULUSH” a play of Badal Sarkar “Michhil” translated in Hindi directed by Mr. Rama Chandra Sahu was staged on invitation of National School of Drama New Delhi at New Delhi.
The Forth Bisuba Ustav and the state level Art exhibition was organized and inaugurated by eminent artist Hemanta Pati.
On request of Law college Balangir the play “Sokasabha” directed by Sri Bidyut Kumar Mishra was staged in the annual function of the college.

In the Year 1995
On 31th January invitation of NSD, New Delhi “JAY HINDH” directed by Sri Rama Chandra Sahu with a flavor of local koshali folk song and music the play was highly appreciated by the dignified faculty members of NSD.
On 27th March our founder president Chhanda Charan Acharya expired leaving behind all incomplete dreams of Bhumika .On the “Bisuba Ustav” a condolence meeting held in memory of Chanda da .

On Republic day “Bhadra Lok” a play of Sri Jaybant Dalvi translated into oriya by Sri Bhawani Panda staged at Law College Balangir . The play was highly appreciated by the audience. Director of the play was Sri Suresh Chandra Sahu.
Chhandacharan Smrane Bisuba Ustav start with a Visual art exhibition inaugurated by Sri Dasaratha Nayan,Artist. the Evening start with Kavita Pathostav and the First Bhumika Sanman was awarded to the Koshali Kabi Sri Haldara Nag of Ghens.

The inmates of Kasturiva Gandhi Matruniketan,Padampur staged “MAHAPURU” A Play by Sri Keshranjan Padhan at Balangir on Bhumiks invitation.

On Lok Mahotstav 2001 Bhumika organized “Gaon Khulir Kosahli chua khel” attempt was made in the line of restoration of folk games by children in village street in koshalanchal.

On Feb 23rd and 24th a play of different test “Heta Henta Heba Naa”. The play was highly appreciated by the audience. Director of the play was Sri Suresh Chandra Sahu. Again the same play stated at Sambalpur on request of Citizen committee, Sambaplur request.

“Heta Henta Heba Naa” was Staged at Durdarshan Kendra,Bhubaneswar Studio in November 2003.
A seminar of LOK USTAV was organized topic “LOK USTAV RA JATHARTHATA”. Entire discussion of the seminar was complied in a book and published. Now it is a reference book for research scholar of the region.

A workshop on theatre was organize under guidance of NSD student. Mr. Baikuntha Panigrahi, Director Durdarshan Kendra, Bhubaneswar and Sri Ananta Mahapatra, Chairman Utkal Rangamancha Trust, Bhubaneswar were the guest.
A Play “NATA” was staged at Aranyak Mancha,Sambalpur. On December 2004.

The First MathKhai Mahotsav was planned and under able Chairmanship of Sj.Narsingh Mishra, Deputy Leader of Opposition Legislative Assembly Orissa. He suggests and guided to materilised the Multilingual Theater Fistival. The five days long festival was inaugurated by Mr.Satis Kausik, Cine Director and Actor.

In the Year 2010
“Swapna ra Balangir” a open House discussion on over Development of Balangir Town .The special session attended by all Councilors of Balangir Municipality along with Chairperson and Executive officer. All Conscious Citizen of Balangir share their experience and suggestion for development of Balangir Town. This is a initiation towards organizing all segment of people for over all development of Balangir and to have batter civic society in this locality. This Session was smoothly conducted. Sri Madhusudan Pati, Eminent Educationalist coordinates the session.
World Theater Day observed and Three plays staged by the Student of Women's College, Balangir, Rajendra College Balangir and NICE,Balangir. at Town Hall Balangir.
